OPERATION MEDICINE DROP SLATED

Durham, NC - The Durham County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with NC Safe Kids and the Durham Police Department, is participating in Operation Medicine Drop Sept. 29. Deputies will collect unwanted medications at two Durham locations: Central Pharmacy (2609 N Duke St) and the Museum of Life and Science (433 W Murray Ave) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The sheriff’s office collected more than 34,000 pills and numerous needles, creams, and other medications during a previous Operation Medicine Drop event March 22.

Unintentional poisonings from prescription medication are on the rise in North Carolina — since 1999, 5,717 North Carolinians have lost their lives from unintentional poisonings. Non-fatal poisonings are especially common in children under the age of five. By properly disposing of unused medications, citizens can help prevent these poisonings and protect the environment.

The take-back event Sept. 29 will allow citizens to safely dispose of expired or unused prescription drugs and over-the-counter medications for free with no questions asked. The collected drugs will later be properly destroyed in an industrial incinerator.

Additional drop-off locations will be located at:
Triangle Pharmacy and True Value Hardware (1700 NC Hwy 54) 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Rite Aid (3725 Wake Forest Hwy) 10 a.m – 2 p.m.
Kroger Pharmacy (202 NC Hwy 54) 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Kroger Pharmacy (3457 Hillsborough Rd) 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

The following locations will accept medications on Sept. 27:
Duke Hospital (North) Lobby (2301 Erwin Rd) 6 – 10 a.m.
Duke South Clinic Lobby (200 Trent Dr) 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Durham Regional Hospital (3643 N Roxboro Rd)

Durham, N.C., June 29, 2012 – After months of planning and preparation, the Durham County Sheriff’s Office will officially take responsibility for animal services in Durham County July 1.
The animal was located in the area of Falkirk Drive in the Heather Glenn subdivision.

The raccoon was killed by domestic dogs and submitted for rabies testing. While the animal has been removed from the community, officials from the Durham County Animal Control Office warn the public that rabies remains a present risk in the territorial boundaries of the County, particularly wildlife.

“Residents in Northern Durham should look out for other rabid animals by being aware of strange animals and protecting their domestic animals from rabies,” says Melinda Duarte, field supervisor for Durham County Animal Control.

Since the positive test, Durham County Animal Control has canvassed the neighborhood where the rabid raccoon was found. Residents in the immediate area received flyers to increase community awareness and remind animal owners about the importance of the rabies vaccination.

Animal control advises residents to protect their animals by getting the vaccination. It is recommended that dogs and cats four months of age and older are vaccinated against rabies. Durham County Animal Control provides low cost rabies vaccinations at the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays for $10.00 per animal. No appointment is necessary and citizens can bring their animals between the hours of 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. and between the hours of 2-4 p.m.

Questions about the risk of rabies or wildlife in your area can be directed to the Animal Control Department at 919-560-0630 between the hours of 8:30a.m. and 5p.m., Monday through Friday.

For more information about the risk of rabies or wildlife in your area, contact the Animal Control Department at 919-560-0630, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5p.m., Monday through Friday.

About Rabies

Rabies has been confirmed and does exist in Durham County. Rabies can infect any warm-blooded mammal, but is most commonly seen in raccoons, bats, foxes and skunks. In North Carolina there have been confirmed cases in bats, bobcats, cats, dogs, cows, horses, foxes, beaver, skunk and groundhog. Rabies is very rarely seen in rodents, including squirrels and rarely in opossum and rabbits. All wild animals should be treated as if they are dangerous, no matter how cute they may appear. Keep children and pets away from all wild animals. Additional information about rabies can be found on the Durham County Animal Control website.
Grande Park HOAhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15991020674297887487noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4884103719095578642.post-10971687193490182112011-04-08T15:04:00.002-04:002011-04-08T15:07:12.618-04:00

GRANDE PARK COMMUNITY YARD SALE SCHEDULED FOR

MAY 14, 2011

Start diggin through your closets, kitchens and garages for stuff to sell!

The HOA will advertise for you!!!
