OPERATION MEDICINE DROP SLATED
Durham, NC - The Durham County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with NC Safe Kids and the Durham Police Department, is participating in Operation Medicine Drop Sept. 29. Deputies will collect unwanted medications at two Durham locations: Central Pharmacy (2609 N Duke St) and the Museum of Life and Science (433 W Murray Ave) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The sheriff’s office collected more than 34,000 pills and numerous needles, creams, and other medications during a previous Operation Medicine Drop event March 22.
Unintentional poisonings from prescription medication are on the rise in North Carolina — since 1999, 5,717 North Carolinians have lost their lives from unintentional poisonings. Non-fatal poisonings are especially common in children under the age of five. By properly disposing of unused medications, citizens can help prevent these poisonings and protect the environment.
The take-back event Sept. 29 will allow citizens to safely dispose of expired or unused prescription drugs and over-the-counter medications for free with no questions asked. The collected drugs will later be properly destroyed in an industrial incinerator.

Triangle Pharmacy and True Value Hardware (1700 NC Hwy 54) 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Rite Aid (3725 Wake Forest Hwy) 10 a.m – 2 p.m.
Kroger Pharmacy (202 NC Hwy 54) 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Kroger Pharmacy (3457 Hillsborough Rd) 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
The following locations will accept medications on Sept. 27:
Duke Hospital (North) Lobby (2301 Erwin Rd) 6 – 10 a.m.
Duke South Clinic Lobby (200 Trent Dr) 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Durham Regional Hospital (3643 N Roxboro Rd)
